So what do we do?
1. Research the chronology of events leading up to the Scottsboro Trials. Using TimeToast, create an timeline including at least 15 of the most important events. Any pictures you can include will make this more awesome!
2. Analyze the language in the headlines and statements from witnesses that came out during the trials. Pay close attention to the pronouns used to describe both the Scottsboro boys and the others involved in the trial. What do you notice about the language and what could that mean about the time and setting of the trial? Draw conclusions and report back to the class in the form of a Prezi or PowerPoint.
3. Create a VoiceThread using photos you find from the trials, Depression era America, and modern day examples of intolerance. Using the audio function, speak about whether or not you feel intolerance is a thing of the past. Use photos to support your opinion. You should be able to draw at least 3 parallels between your modern day example and the Scottsboro Trials.
4. Once all three tasks are completed, post links (all three) to your completed work on the discussion thread on our class website and answer the question posted there for an extension. The question (which all members should answer collectively) is: What can we do to solve the issue of intolerance?
